The wireless keyboard and mouse are some of the worst pieces of hardware to troubleshoot because it’s so annoying. In my mind, there is no business case to use these. I can’t tell you how often this crops up. As an IT professional, I loath these things. I’m extremely busy and don’t have time to fix problems that don’t need fixing in the first place.
Let’s start with the environmental cost. These things use batteries. These batteries are harmful to the environment and need to be constantly replaced. Why not use a wired device that can provide years of faithful service?
Second, it’s wireless. Yeah, it’s cool but it’s not fun when there’s interference. I’ve seen weird things happen. Some of which include slow responses, missing or skipping letters, rapid ghost scrolling, and the need to resync. These things are not reliable.
As a business, why are you paying your techs and higher-level managers to troubleshoot devices that don’t have a good business case? It’s a waste of time for little benefit. In my career, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hardwired mouse or keyboard fail. They just work.
